BCB is eyeing the captain in the long term

Najm Hossain Shanto is the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team. He had expressed his desire to give up leadership of the team to improve its performance.

The star batsman conveyed a message to the Bangladesh Cricket Board about his unwillingness to captain the T20I team before deciding otherwise. After BCB president Farooq Ahmed was implicated in the matter, Najmwal Hossain Shanto was appointed captain of the team for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan and agreed to continue as captain for all formats.

However, he suffered a thigh injury in that series and was ruled out for the subsequent all-format series against the West Indies. Mehidi Hasan Miraz led the team in the Test and ODI series against West Indies while the selection committee put its faith in Litton Das to lead the team in the T20I series.

Bangladesh managed to level the Test series 1-1 but were whitewashed 0-3 in the ODI series. However, under the captaincy of Liton Das, they bounced back strongly and registered a 3-0 win in the T20I series.

In terms of leadership, if the Brazilian Central Bank asks me to lead, I am ready to do so – Liton Das

Litton, who previously captained the team before being sacked, said he is ready to become full-time captain of Bangladesh in the T20I format despite his poor form with the bat.

“In terms of leadership, if the Brazilian Central Bank asks me to lead, I am ready to do it because there is no reason (not to do it) and I enjoy it,” Leighton told reporters after the win, according to Cricbuzz.

“I make a lot of decisions on the field with the experience I have gained playing for a long time and the skill the bowlers have developed, which makes it easier to run the show on the field.

“As captain, I never said you give it your all (on the field). All I said was that they (West Indies) are a better team and on their day they can destroy at home and so the information was as we will do it,” he said. “Go and enjoy your cricket and whatever the outcome is, we will accept it with a smiling face and try to fulfill our responsibility,” he said.

Overall, if I had to say our bowling attack was outstanding – Liton Das

Litton Das also showered rich praise on the Bangladesh bowlers for their performance on the West Indies tour. He stated that both spinners and fielders did well in all the three formats.

“Overall, if I had to say our bowling attack was fantastic and the way they bowled in three formats, both pacers and spinners. I was behind the wicket and I was feeling good because every batsman was struggling,” he said.

“The thing is if the bowlers bowl well, it becomes easier for me behind the wicket and as I said the bowlers know what kind of fielding preparation they need, so it is easy for me.”

Liton Das also admitted that the Bangladesh team does not have a devastating batting unit, but a balanced unit that can score good totals, which the bowlers can defend.

“Look, they are a better team I would say that and at home they are a good team. But when five bowlers are bowling well and from top to bottom we have a balanced batting unit – I wouldn’t say we have a devastating batting unit but we have a balanced side – and if we can Putting some strokes on the board, I feel the bowlers are developing their skills and every match the bowlers are taking responsibility on their own, they are preparing their own pitch. I learn a lot of things and I feel that it is a good sign,” he said.
