Leeds United are reportedly planning an exciting move for high-profile Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Ireland international, long considered one of the best reserve goalkeepers in the Premier League, could leave Anfield in search of regular first-team action.
Since making his Liverpool debut in 2019, Kelleher has made 60 appearances for the Reds, keeping 21 clean sheets. Although he primarily served as deputy to Brazilian star Alisson Becker, Kelleher delivered standout performances whenever called upon.
One of his most memorable moments came in the 2022 League Cup Final, where he scored the decisive penalty in a thrilling penalty shootout win over Chelsea. This season, with Alisson out due to injury, Kelleher has stepped into the starting role and impressed once again.
His performances included great performances Penalty kick saved by Kylian Mbappewhich helped Liverpool maintain its position at the top of the English Premier League and Champions League during a crucial period.
Despite his heroics, Liverpool manager Arne Slott has maintained that Alisson remains the club’s undisputed number one goalkeeper. The Brazilian regained his place last week against Girona, pushing Kelleher to the bench.
Adding to Kelleher’s predicament is Liverpool’s summer signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is seen as a long-term successor to Alisson. Reports suggest that the 26-year-old Irishman is now seriously considering his future He reportedly informed those close to him of his intention to leave Next summer.
Kelleher was on the verge of leaving Anfield last summer, with Nottingham Forest expressing interest, but Liverpool blocked the move. With another year of limited opportunities looming, it looks increasingly likely that his time on Merseyside is coming to an end.
Leeds United are interested in Caoimhin Kelleher
According to the latest from TEAMtalkKelleher is attracting serious interest from Leeds United who see him as an ideal replacement for the struggling Illan Meslier. However, they will reportedly have no chance of signing him unless they regain promotion to the Premier League.
The report also adds that there is no guarantee that the player would want to join Leeds even if he wins promotion, as he could be at risk of immediate relegation.
Additionally, the report claims that alongside Leeds, there will be top Champions League teams showing interest in the Liverpool man, and while the player’s decision will depend on where he gets the most playing time, it is clear that Champions League teams will have the favour.
For now, Kelleher is still a Liverpool player, but his future is shrouded in uncertainty. As one of Europe’s most reliable back-up goalkeepers, he will undoubtedly be a hot commodity in next summer’s transfer market.
