Karnataka HC HC HC HC OLA, Uber, Rapido Bike Taxi Services until the regulations in place

In a recent direction, the Karnataka Supreme Court ordered a comment on bicycle taxi services by app -based horseback services, such as OLA, Uber and Rapido.

This decision, made by Judge BM Shyam Prasad, states that these services must stop until the state government enacted the appropriate regulations under the Automobile Law, 1988. The court granted a six -week period to facilitate the development of these regulatory frameworks. This procedure stems from the state government’s notification last year, which banned bicycle taxi operations that indicate that electrical wheels are not adopted through horse riding platforms and abuse of alleged policy.

The previous ban on taxi cars has been associated with the withdrawal of the Karnataka Electricity Bicycle Plan, which was first presented on July 14, 2021. Designed to promote the use of electric vehicles, the plan did not achieve its desired results.

Judge Shiam Brasad directed the platforms to stop its operations within six weeks and ordered the government to agree to this directive.

Transport Minister Raminga Reddy welcomed the court’s decision, saying that the government had been granted three months to develop the necessary regulations. He pointed out that the lack of regulations for the platforms based on the application may have sparked safety concerns for users.

In August 2021, one of the unilateral benchs had previously directed the authorities not to take “forced measures” against Rabdo, which allowed his operations to use non -electric motions due to the lack of specific government regulations. Rapido, with the support of Westbridge Capital and Nexus Venture Partners, provides bicycle car services in Bangaluru since 2016. Continuous lack of organizational clarity has provided legal and operational challenges for applications based on applications in the region.

The taxi market in Bangaluru was tense, with repeated conflicts between car drivers and taxi operators. Last year, incidents were reported about car drivers who prevent bicycle taxis and even engaging in material confrontations, even though videos of these events are viral.

The state of Karnataka was the first state to offer a policy dedicated to strengthening electrical taxis. However, the government did not imagine a strong response enough platforms to encourage it, as officials said in economic times. Despite EV startups, there was a lack of licensing applications.

In October 2023, Delhi was uncertain by implementing a policy that allows the operation of taxis, but exclusively with electrical bikes. Maharashtra recently allowed taxi cars, although some conditions related to the maximum distance of operations and the minimum fleet size should be fulfilled.
