The leader of the Republican People’s Party calls for the release of the former mayor, and condemns the arrest of demonstrators in the increasing clashes on Turkish democracy.

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in Istanbul in the streets of the streets have been transferred again, and they gather against the government’s decision to prison Mayor of the popular city.

IMamoglu’s detention, and the official detention later on charges of corruption on March 23, led to protests at the country level despite the prohibition of gatherings, the repression of the police, and the legal prosecution by the authorities.

“They detained hundreds of our children, thousands of our youth … the arrest of their hundreds,” said Ozjor Ozil, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) who organized the protest. “They only had one goal in mind: intimidating them, terrifying them, and making sure not to go out again.”

Nearly 1900 people have been detained since March 19, and the pro -government media reported on Friday that the public prosecutors had asked for a period of up to three years, compared to 74 of them.

“For many people here, it is not a matter of democracy, especially for students. The presence of gatherings is a way to show flexibility and protect their freedoms for their future,” said Cosmoglu from the island.

The police kept their distance on Saturday’s march without any new arrests reported. Ozel called for the immediate release of IMAMOGLU, as well as for other political prisoners, including Selahaattin Demirtas, a former presidential candidate and founder of the Equality and Democracy Party in the prominent peoples, or Dem.

Ozil added: “In Turki, we will not imagine that the presidential candidates will not be imprisoned.”

Last Sunday, hours after his official arrest, Imamoglu won with this symbolic, to be CHPA candidate in the presidential elections currently scheduled for 2028, but it is likely to happen earlier.
