Israeli intelligence chief announces his resignation after spitting with Benjamin Netanyahu

The head of local intelligence in Israel announced that he will step down on June 15, after weeks of the public debate with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who pushed the country to the brink of the constitutional crisis.

The President of Shin Beit Ronin Bar had previously said that he would resign because of his role in the failures surrounding the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel.

“As the person who stood at the head of the organization (on October 7), he assumed responsibility,” said Bar in a speech celebrating the celebration of the Shin Beit Al -Saraqat operations on Monday evening.

“Now, on an evening symbolizing anniversary, heroism and sacrifice, I chose to announce that I will continue and decided to step down as a director.”

NetanyahuA government last month removed a controversial move that was criticized by opposition leaders and civil society groups as political motives.

After that, the Supreme Court issued a temporary deportation to stop the judges so that it could confirm whether Netanyahu can legally launch the head of local espionage amid continuous investigations by Shin Pitt and other pressure actions carried out by Prime Minister on behalf of Qatar.

In a written certificate submitted to the court this month, Bar claimed that Netanyahu had called for personal inflammation in the event of any future constitutional crisis with the country’s judiciary.

Bar also claimed that he was asked to use the vast forces to monitor the anti -government demonstrators and stop the ongoing trial of corruption in Netanyahu on the basis of security.

In a competitive written statement submitted to the court on Sunday, Netanyahu denied allegations of Bar, saying they were full of “lies and contradictions”, and insisted that he had the authority to dismiss the president of Shin Pitt. Netanyahu’s ruling coalition threatened to ignore the Supreme Court, as it prompted many ministers to stop all work with a bar.

Bar is the last Israeli security head of the October 7 attack, which is still in effect. The former defense minister, Juff Galet, was dismissed by Netanyahu last November, while Israeli defense head, Herzi Halevi, resigned under pressure from the Prime Minister last month. Several senior military officers resigned or mentioned their intention to do so.

Netanyahu and his allies in the government and the media have tried to blame the October 7 attack on a bar and army generals. The Prime Minister, in power for most of the past 16 years, refused to continue to accept any responsibility for the worst loss in life in Israeli history, and he went up to the establishment of a national investigation committee for a full investigation into the attack.

In his speech, Bara took a veiled criticism in Netanyahu, saying: “Given the size of the event, we all chose public service and defending the security of the state as the mission of our life … our heads must bend in humility.

It is still unclear what the next steps will be for the Supreme Court, as it has already pushed Netanyahu and Bar to find a compromise date for the leaving the chief spy. However, Bar said on Monday that he hoped to put his case “the necessary basic work” for the court to issue a decision that would protect both Shane Beit Independence and the country’s democratic system.

“There is a need for clarification regarding institutional protection that will allow any director (a bet in the future) to do his work independently and free from pressure,” said Barr. “This will draw a clear line to distinguish between trust and loyalty.”
