Israel has conducted the first air strike on the southern outskirts of Beirut, where Hezbollah has been present, since the start of the shooting with the group in November.
The Israeli army said it struck the unmanned aircraft storage unit that Hezbollah used on Friday, after issuing a panic warning.
The attack took place hours after two missiles were launched from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel. Israel said it had intercepted one missile, while the other failed to cross the border.
Hezbollah said it was not involved. Israel said the attack was a “violation” of the shooting, while the office of the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, also said that the Israeli attack was “a violation of the agreement.”
The strike came after the Israeli army issued a warning to evacuate a building in the Hadith area in the Lebanese capital. Videos showed people to leave in panic. Schools have ordered them to be sincere.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on social media that the previous missile attack that was responding to “pose a flagrant violation of an understanding between Israel and Lebanon and constitutes a direct threat to civilians in the state of Israel.”
The Israeli Defense Army added: “The state of Lebanon is responsible for supporting the agreement.”
The Lebanese presidency published on X that Aoun, who is in Paris to attend meetings, informed French President Emmanuel Macron as well as the Cypriot President and the Greek Prime Minister that “Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs and threats are a continuation of Israel’s violation of the agreement sponsored by France and the United States.”
The statement said: “The international community must put an end to these attacks and force Israel to adhere to the agreement, just as Lebanon is obligated to.”
The latest developments are pressure on the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, the militia backed by the Iranian and the political group, but the deal is likely to remain alive.
Friday’s attack is another evidence of the challenges facing the Lebanese authorities in an attempt to exercise control of areas in the south of the country, where armed groups have been active for decades. Hezbollah is the strongest of them, but the Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, are also working there.
Despite the deal, Israel has carried out near daily weather strikes on people and the targets that it says are linked to Hezbollah, saying it is behaving to prevent Hezbollah from renewing. The government of Lebanon says that these attacks and the hours of Israeli soldiers in five locations in southern Lebanon are violations of Indian.
The missile fire that was targeting Israel on Friday was the second attack from Lebanon within a week.
On March 22, Israel carried out multiple air strikes on Lebanon after firing several missiles from Lebanon to Israel. The Israeli army said it had hit dozens of missile launchers and a command center belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Ministry of Health, Lebanon, said that seven people, including a child, were killed and 40 were injured in air strikes.
Hezbollah said it had no involvement and remaining a ceasefire, and no other armed group has demanded responsibility.
The November ceasefire set up for more than 13 months of conflict.
Hezbollah launched its campaign the day after Hamas attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, saying it was acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The conflict has long escalated and led to an intense Israeli air campaign throughout Lebanon, and a ground invasion of southern Lebanon.
The attack was killed about 4000 people in Lebanon – including many civilians – and led to the displacement of more than 1.2 million people.
The declared goal of Israel in its war against Hezbollah was to allow the return of about 60,000 residents who were displaced from societies in the north of the country due to the group’s attacks, and to remove it from the regions along the border.
