The firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire in the port on Monday, two days after the explosion

The Iranian Minister of Interior said that neglect was a factor in the explosion and huge fires in the largest container port in the country, as the number of deaths rose to at least 70.

Eskander Momaini said that the explosion on Saturday in the martyr of Rajai, a port in Bandar Abbas, who also wounded more than 1,000 people, was the result of “the shortcomings, including lack of compliance with safety and neglect reserves.”

“Some individuals who are responsible for interrogation were called to interrogation.

Customs authorities said that the imported goods caught fire and exploded. The Ministry of Defense denied foreign reports that it was a shipment of missile fuel chemical.

On Monday, the director of the Crisis Management Department in the Hormuzjan Province, Mehrdad Hassan, said on Monday that the fire control effort in the port was “almost in its final stages.”

Meanwhile, the governor of Hermozjan Muhammad Asuri Tazi said that the cleansing operations in the port can last for several other days, and it may take from one to two weeks before the situation returns there to normal.

It was estimated that 1500 hectares (3700 acres) – nearly two -thirds of the site – were severely affected by the explosion.

The customs administration said that the goods that caught the fire and the explosion were not registered and were not officially announced before the accident, according to the ISNA news agency.

On Sunday, the CEO of the company that was running the affected area, Sina Marine and Port Services Development, blamed a “repeated and catastrophic mistake that includes wrong ads for dangerous goods.”

The Iranian Ministry of Defense denied reports that the explosion was the result of the improper dealing of the sodium Berklores, a solid fuel used for ballistic missiles.

“There was no fuel shipments or shipments for military use in the vicinity of the accident,” said a spokesman for Brigadier Reza Talay Nick on Sunday, and accused the foreign media of publishing “fake news.”

Ambrey Intelligence, a special consultant for marine risks, told the Associated Press that the port received a shipment of sodium Berklores last month, and that the explosion “was the result of the improper dealing.”

The New York Times also cited a person whose name has not been named and has relations with Iranian revolutionary guards as saying that sodium Berklores had exploded.
