India and the United States are scheduled to start in a new round of talks this week for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA), with immediately virtual discussions and personal negotiations scheduled for the second half of May 2025. The Ministry of Commerce affirmed development, indicating an important step forward in bilateral economic relations.
According to a senior official at the Ministry of Commerce, “virtual discussions to start this week between India and the United States for BTA”, with “discussions in the financial situation to start the second half of May 2025.”
The move comes after a major tour of the meetings between officials from the Ministry of Commerce in India and the representatives of the US Trade Representative (USTR), which was held in Delhi from 26 to 29 March. The meetings helped the two sides “widely understand the following steps towards BTA,” the official said.
The ministry confirmed that the ongoing process is supported by high -level political consensus. “There is a clear path determined at the leadership level,” the official pointed out.
“We have taken an agreement for liberation and trade,” the ministry said, adding that there is hope that the result will bring “more opportunities than fears.”
The official admitted to both challenges and possible gains: “There are concerns and opportunities for India as much as the definitions go,” but he expressed optimism about progress, saying, “Good progress for us BTA, they hope to get more opportunities than fears.”
Trade between the two countries remained strong, as the United States continued as an export destination in India. India exported the goods of $ 86.51 billion in the United States in 2024, and the ministry expects this momentum to grow more. The official added: “There will be a higher trade with us,” the official added.
