Hungary said on Thursday that it will withdraw from the International Criminal Court, declaring its decision a few hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived from Israel there on a visit despite the confrontation of an international arrest warrant.
The government of Prime Minister Victor Urban explained that it would ignore its obligations to act on the authority of the International Criminal Court as a party in 1998 Treaty established the court.
Instead of arresting Mr. Netanyahu, upon his arrival at Budapest early on Thursday morning, Hungary launched the red carpet, and welcomed the Israeli leader in the Buda Castle overlooking the Danube River with a military honor division.
In a message on Facebook, Jereley Julias, Chief of Staff of Mr. Urban, said that Hungary will start with the withdrawal process on Thursday “according to the constitutional and international frameworks of the law.”
The International Criminal Court issued arrest orders in November to Mr. Netanyahu and former Defense Secretary, Yov Galet, accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
