On Tuesday, the Hungarian lawmakers passed a law prohibiting the events of pride, allowing authorities to use facial recognition programs to identify the attendees, and to continue a campaign by the right -wing Prime Minister Vicore Urban Party in the 2SLGBTQ+ community in the country.

The law, supported by the Urban Pidban Party and their partner in the minority coalition, was pushed by Christian Democrats, through Parliament in an acceleration procedure just one day before. The procedure was released in 136-27 votes.

It amend the Hungary Law on the Assembly to make a crime of contract or attend events that violate the controversial “child protection” legislation, which prohibits “depicting or strengthening” homosexuality “for minors under the age of 18.

The presence of a banned event of fines of up to 200,000 Hungarian Forents ($ 785 of CDN), which the state must redirect to “protect the child”, will carry, according to the text of the law. The authorities may use facial recognition tools to identify individuals who attend a prohibited event.

With the vote in the Hungary Parliament in Budapest, opposition lawmakers set smoke bombs in the room, filling them with thick smoke columns.

Budapest Pride screams legislation

Budapest Pride, who occupies the thirtieth anniversary of its founding this year, is scheduled to be held on June 28.

In a statement on Monday, after lawmakers presented for the first time the draft law, Budapest Pride organizers said that the aim of the law is a “scapegoat” of a 2SLGBTQ community in order to silence the votes of the Urban government.

“This is not the protection of the child, this is fascist,” the organizers wrote. “The government is trying to restrict peaceful protests in a critical voice by targeting a minority. Therefore, as a movement, we will fight for the freedom of all Hungarians!”

The Urban government has approved other laws over the years that have criticized other European rights groups and politicians as repressive against sexual minorities.

In 2022, the European Union Executive Committee filed a case with the highest court in the European Union against the Child Protection Law 2021 in Hungary.

The European Commission argued that the law “distinguishes people based on their sexual tendencies and sexual identity.” Hungary’s government depicts itself as a hero for traditional family values and a defender of Christian civilization, which she calls “sexual sexes”, and argues that its policies are designed to protect children from “sexual propaganda”.

Regardless of the ban on “portrayal” homosexuality in the content available to minors – including on television, movies, advertisements and literature – the “Child Protection Law” is also prohibited to mention 2SLGBTQ+ in school education programs, and it prohibits the general photography of “the gender of deviation from sex at birth.”
