Hundreds of flights were canceled in China, where strong winds hit the capital

Hundreds of flights were canceled and train lines were suspended when Gales struck Beijing and northern China on Saturday.

By 11:30 local time (03:30 GMT) on Saturday, 838 flights were canceled at the main Capital Airport, according to Reuters.

Wind storms that reaches 93 miles per hour (150 km per hour) – the strongest in the Chinese capital for more than half a century – will continue during the weekend, forcing to close the attractions and historical sites.

Millions were urged to stay in their homes on Friday, with some government media warning that people of less than 50 kg may “may be easily detonated.”

Train services including the airport’s highway and some high -speed railways were suspended. The gardens were also closed, as some old trees were strengthened or reduced in preparation, but nearly 300 trees have already fallen in the capital.

A number of vehicles were damaged, but no injuries were reported – in Beijing, most of the population followed the advice of the authorities to stay inside after the city warned 22 million people against avoiding the unsafe travel.

“Everyone in Beijing was really tense about it. Today, there are hardly any people in the streets. However, it was not as severe as I was imagining,” a local population told Reuters.

While a businessman from Zhejiang County canceled his home.

“Because of the strong winds, all the flights that were identified last night and today have been canceled. So I would like to repeat my journey in two days. I am now cut off in Beijing,” he said.

Strong winds come from a cold spiral system above Mongolia and are expected to continue until the weekend.

Beijing issued the first orange alert to strong winds in a decade with the strongest expected winds on Saturday.

China measures wind speed with a scale that is transmitted from 1 to 17. Wind can cause 11 levels, according to the Chinese meteorological department, “severe damage”, while the 12 -level wind brings “severe destruction.”

Winds are expected to range from this week from 11 to 13, as conditions are expected to be given by Sunday.
