Speaking to Al -Jazeera from Doha, Qatar, where he was receiving treatment, Mahmoud Ajjur, nine years old, recalled the moment when the bomb exploded, and targeted his house in March 2024.

Initially, Ajjour, who descended from the old city in Gaza City, said he did not realize that he was injured.

“I thought I had simply fell. But I found myself on the ground, I exhausted, and wondering what happened,” he said.

In fact, one arm “flew, fly one and fell next to me directly”, added.

He is still unaware that he was seriously wounded – wounds that completely distort his body – Ajjour said he looked around and saw his arms. Although they seemed familiar, his brain still cannot understand that they were detonated.

“My mother told me that I lost my arms,” ​​I remember Ajjur. “I started crying. I was very sad, and my mental condition was very bad.”

His mental health deteriorated when he, like many others in Gaza, was undergoing surgery without anesthesia due to a severe shortage of medical supplies. Throughout the war, the Israeli forces closed a largely vital border crossings, which prevents the entry of medical supplies that affect the need, as well as food And other aid, including fuel.

Ajjour said: “They had surgery on me while I was awake,” Agjour said.

“I couldn’t bear the pain, I was crying very loud. My voice filled the corridors.”

“Everything is difficult”

Ajjour is one of the thousands of children in Gaza with changing life injuries due to the indiscriminate Israeli bombing.

According to the United Nations Fund for Children, more than 10 children have lost each day or both since October 7, 2023, when Israel launched the continuous genocide in Gaza.

Ajjour is now learning to write and play games on his phone and wear himself using his feet – but he still needs special help for most daily activities.

He is now eager for the days when his arms were still intact.

Before the attack, Ajjour said he used to go to the market and buy vegetables and food you need.

“Now, everything is difficult, including feeding myself, helping myself in the bathroom … but I am doing my best,” he said. “I manage my life like this. Make it work.”

Ajjour dreams of a future where he can return to Gaza and help rebuild the devastating pocket.

He hopes that the world will be able to “end the war on Gaza.”

“We want to live on our land. We do not want the Israelis to take it,” he said.

“People die there (in Gaza). My house has been bombed. How can I live like this?”

Israel’s continuous attack on the besieged lands and bombing has so far killed more than 51,000 Palestinians and wounded at least 116,505 others, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
