How did you make Hades II games for Nintendo Switch 2 | Greg Coravin interview

Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 Hybrid game console in New York yesterday, and brought a number of gaming developers who played the platform. One of the games shown was Supergiant Games’ Hades II, which was working for four years.

I spoke with Greg Coravin, Creative Director of Supergiant Games, at the event about how the company did the game for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Work began in 2021, after shipping Supergian Hades to the key in 2020.

Now, I have prepared the title Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. I played the game and the gameplay was very smooth, with a somewhat 2.5D performed.

Hades II distinguishes Melinoe, the sister of the original game champion Zagreus. She is in a conflict with Titan Chronos (her grandfather). She was intertwined with Olympic gods from the first game – Zeus, Poseidon, Artemis and Ephrit. She also has to deal with new gods in a game like God Blacksmith Hephaestus, Sun God Apollo, MON GODDESS Selene and HECate. Melino has the ability to tame animals and drop the power of the moon on their enemies.

Casafin said that Supergiant was happy with how Switch appeared in 2020, where the game found a big and excited audience.

For completion, the company wanted to work well on the original key. While they started, they did not know anything about key 2, as Casafin said.

“When we learned of the switch 2, we managed to raise the game and run it on this platform very quickly due to the basis that we already set,” Corphane said. “It was great for us to get this largest and brighter screen.”

“We want people to be able to capture this game and play it with the primary understanding of how to make control units,” Corphane said.

The game works on 720 pixels on the original key, but it can do a resolution of 1080 pixels on the new devices in terms of operating Hades II. This was not difficult to do because the team was making the game to support a wide range of decisions on modern computers. The goal is to get the game in 60 frames per second on both Switch and Switch 2. The possibility of 120 frames per second was a surprise to Casavin, and therefore the team has not yet discovered if he could reach these specifications. This is the nature of devices design – it is a moving target.

As for the four years, this is almost the same time to make the original abyss. Corphane said the new game will take longer it will take longer.

“This is simply a bigger game,” he said. “It is really important for us to find a developmental pace that we can maintain over time, it is the marathon race, not the enemy, a kind of mentality. Our team has been together for more than 15 years until now, and our goal has always been to adhere to each other as much as we can continue to do so. The long time to develop is just a job for that.”

Hades II has no yet launch date. There is still at least one early access mode to hit it. But Kasavin said the game will sell at a low price because the company believes in giving good value to the players.

“The original Hades game has turned as I did because of early access development, which is very important for this also continued,” said Kasavin. “We are really grateful to excite everyone to the original game, and early access to this game. It helps us to continue.”
