Why are you reading? Artificial intelligence predictions Who isn’t Sam Altman and isn’t an AI Ph.D.? Well, early-stage venture capitalists spend their days working with people smarter than us who are using AI to the max. This allows us to see a version of what the future could hold.

In more than 30 years of working in technology, I have never seen a technology — specifically advances in and around foundational models — have such a major impact in so many ways, so quickly. It has reshaped my expectations about how teams are built and how companies deliver value.

With that in mind, here are my predictions for 2025.

We are trying to contain artificial intelligence

I love Mustafa Suleiman Digital species are a corollary For artificial intelligence because it gets the containment issue right. Many current AI products suggest courses of action. But increasingly, AI will take action on our behalf. We must frame who we are no want to do.

Expect a lot of loud clanking in this area. If we use California’s failed SB1047 legislation as leading evidence, Elon Musk’s pro-regulation positions and Trump’s anti-regulation positions will offset the penalties. Look for things like Anthropic A constitutional model on steroids where the industry attempts to “self-regulate” the integrity of the basis model to avoid government regulation. Likewise, we expect AI security startups to flourish to aid in forms of cyber containment.

Foundation models are like the DNA of a brand

Some of you may remember the days of “Intel Inside” as a big campaign. Incorporation forms Brand strength will accrue to products built on it. This goes beyond the tone of voice, which today, according to Claude, sounds as follows:

  • GPT-4: Premium and Scalable Advisor.
  • Claude: The meticulous moral advisor.
  • Llama: Flexible and flexible commoner.

The tone is adjustable. How understanding and remembering are implemented in the model is not. Forms will inevitably shape how products “feel”.

Artificial Intelligence Nobel Prize

Not quite, but the replicability of scientific discoveries will increase dramatically. Today, artificial intelligence makes it possible to achieve breakthroughs in collaboration with humans. I agree with Vinod Khosla Here: AI scientists — highly specialized AI agents — will soon outperform their human counterparts at discovering ideas.

This is because AI scientists do not need breaks. They have endless patience for repetition. They have perfect memory for data. They can work 24/7. Look forward to seeing the first glimpses of this tireless work ethic in medical discoveries and healthcare breakthroughs, with a plethora of startups helping companies capitalize on it.

Voice interfaces redefine “hands-free”

If Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant are voice interfaces 1.0, then voice — with the added context of visuals and text — will power entirely new product experiences that recalibrate our standards.

Specialized audio only Foundation models They’re racing against larger foundation models to push what’s possible here. We are already seeing great progress in Meta smart glasses and how far they have come from Google Glass. “Hands-free” operation will have a whole new meaning and expectation.

We have crossed the trust tipping point with Generation AI

I have a good sense of direction. It only took me getting stuck in a few traffic jams that I didn’t know about — but my map app did — before I gave up, finally trusting that map apps knew the roads better than I did.

The same will happen with generative AI outputs. For now, experts are still achieving superior results. This gap will close, and we will surrender to more AGI outputs, assuming they are at least on par and sometimes even better than the experts. They will get credit in the same way that we cite those we quote. Case in point: See the branding section of this article.

We pay a premium for craftsmanship

As the threshold for creativity decreases—Dall-E and a slew of other tools create new designs in seconds—the value of non-digital goods containing evidence of human creation will increase. Think of original photography or visual design, but also of that ceramic mug that was made by an artist, not stamped by a robot in a factory.

My adult kids marvel at VCRs and love vinyl, but this is far from a classic. In a highly digital world, the analog and the physical make sense in ways that will surprise you, especially for the Generation Z and Generation Alpha set.

“Humans were found here”

A lot of my friends like Waymo because it doesn’t require them to talk to anyone. But when it’s time to get serious, the ability to interact with a human who can exercise judgment that doesn’t rely on black box logic is important. Which approach – AI or human progress – has more value will become a dividing line.

We expect to see a backlash in areas like customer service, where the rush toward AI will frustrate many. Humans in the loop will be viewed as better than fully autonomous systems. Businesses (and consumers) will reinforce and value this distinction.

What year…

I’ll end 2024 humble and expect a lot of chaos in 2025. But I’m optimistic and feel brave in the fact that I’m still surrounded by really smart people trying to build great companies and make things better. I wish you humility, joy, and much grace in the coming year.
