Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis blames young victims

Sitting down for his first interview in more than a decade, the 51-year-old series founder spoke candidly about his experiences during GGW’s heyday and the recent “Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story” docuseries chronicling the rise and success of the GGW series. For a time, advertisements for Francis’ “Girls Gone Wild” series were a staple of the film Late night TVthrilling long-form videos of party girls all over the world showing off for the camera.

Beginning in 1997, Francis released footage of these women via home video delivery. By 2002, he had generated over $20 million in sales through 83 different Girls Gone Wild titles.

Almost immediately after its success, allegations from women who claimed to have been drunk while filming the film began to mob Francis and his associates. Francis manages to dispel some of their claims with footage of them acquiescing and appearing to be of sound mind as they do so.

In 2003, more serious allegations of filming and sexual interactions with minors followed, leading to Joe Francis being charged with child abuse and prostitution in 2008. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced in 2015 to serve less than a year in prison – a sentence that His judges have already served.

He also received six months of “failure to report” probation and was banned from filming in Panama City for three years.

As legal problems mounted, Francis left the United States and moved to Mexico, where he currently resides. He is considered to be living “in exile”, in part because he has refused to face trial over another arrest warrant issued in 2014.

Speaking to journalist Scacchi Cole about the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ docuseries and the actions that led him to infamy, Francis defiantly refused to take responsibility – especially for the charges brought against him in 2008.

“They were seventeen years old, meaning they were eighteen years old,” he said, refusing to refer to the victims as “young men.”

“[The girls were]the ones who fell victim to ‘Girls Gone Wild,’” Francis continued, as he wrote it Entertainment Weekly.

“We believe the Panama City police set them up, and it was all (part of) an operation,” he added. I think it was quite coordinated. I walked into the fucking snake pit, okay?

The four victims claim they were minors when they were photographed performing sex acts and posing topless at a Panama City hotspot. They will eventually report Francis to the local police, who in turn will put together a RICO case against Francis and the “Girls Gone Wild” company.

To this day, Francis claims he feels no guilt about photographing underage women or providing them with alcohol to lower their inhibitions.

“I don’t think they were victimized. They victimized me,” he repeated.

As it stands, Joe Francis is facing charges related to two separate assault incidents, which also increases his resistance to returning to the country.

The first was made in 2013 after a 2011 incident in which Francis invited three women to his Hollywood mansion via limousine, then refused to let them leave.

Once they arrived at his residence, Francis allegedly “(grabbed) one of the women by the throat and hair, and (slammed) her head into the tiled floor four times.”

He then asked the women to refrain from calling the police. He was sentenced to 270 days in jail and ordered to complete an anger management course, along with a year of mental health counseling.

In 2014, he was arrested again after an altercation at the Girls Gone Wild headquarters in Los Angeles.

Because the latest incident represents a probation violation in a 2011 incident, Francis was scheduled to be charged with stronger charges — but since… Los Angeles Times He notes that he soon traveled to Mexico and never returned.

A $500,000 warrant was quickly issued for his arrest.
