The office of former US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in a statement that she underwent successful hip replacement surgery in Luxembourg on Saturday, and is in “good condition.”
Pelosi, 84, was injured during a trip to Luxembourg and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, her office said on Friday.
She was in Europe with a bipartisan congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
“The Speaker is grateful to the American military personnel at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center on Landstuhl Military Base and the medical staff at Kirchberg Hospital in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness,” her spokesman Ian Krager said in a statement issued Saturday.
Pelosi was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House and was also a longtime leader of the House Democratic Caucus.
