Former Russian general imprisoned for seven years on bribes

A former Russian general was imprisoned for seven years after being accused of taking bribes.

The investigation committee in Russia said that it took bribes of 36 million rubles (331,000 pounds) between 2019 and 2023 from a factory that produces telecommunications equipment – and in return, the volume of state contracts granted to the company increased.

Before his arrest, he held the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army, supervising the Military Signs and Communications Corps.

“In total, Shamarin was sentenced to seven years in prison in a firm security colony, a seven -year ban on public service, and was stripped of his military rank,” Tass News Agency in Russia.

The court also confiscated 36 million rubles from it.

Shamarin was among the many personalities of the Supreme Defense Ministry that was reserved last year, which also included Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov and Ventian General Yuri Kozntsov, head of the director of the Ministry of Defense employees.

This came after Russian President Vladimir Putin, long -term defense minister Sergei Shoigu, refused in May 2024.

He was replaced by Andre Pelosov, an economist with a few military experience.

Experts suggested that the corruption campaign was an attempt by the Kremlin to enhance the efficiency of the Russian army.
