The Supreme Court of Spain said on Thursday that it had found former Football Association President Luis Rubiales with sexual assault by kissing Jenny Hermoso player without her consent, and a fine of more than 10,000 euros, but she acquitted him of coercion.
Public prosecutors sought a prison sentence on Rubiales in a case that caused a discussion in Spain on sexual discrimination in women’s football and the wider Spanish society.
“The ruling prevents Rubiales from going inside a 200 -meter -diameter circle from Hermoso and from communicating with her for one year,” the court said in a statement.
Rubiales, 47, was accused of sexual assault of Hermoso kissing on the mouth. He was also accused – along with three other former Football Association officials – of trying to force her to say the qiblah, at the 2023 World Cup Awards in Sydney, was mutual.
Hermoso’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment.
