Turkiye has always put a defense, initially buying and then developing its own weapons.

Malik also emerged, the second largest in NATO, as a source of prominent weapons, with some distinctive products in the international market.

Turkiye exports increased yearly to $ 7.1 billion in 2024 – from $ 1.9 billion a decade ago – with clients across Europe and the Middle East.

What is behind this growth? What are the capabilities of Torke? And why is it important? This is what we know:

When did Turki move to local production?

Turkiye sought military self -sufficiency for a period of time, a gradual process that has selected the Defense and Support Management Office (SAGB) in 1985.

For years, Sageb focused on international cooperation in research and development. But when Turkiye opposes restrictions on the weapons you can buy and how they can use it, which turned into local production.

In 2010, the focus turned into local design, which led to a significant increase in local defense production.

Today, thousands of Turkish defense manufacturers extend to land, air and sea capabilities, which are increasingly recognized internationally.

Why interest in manufacturing weapons?

It can be said that the TURKIYE batch of the development of military devices is the result of foreign forces like internal drivers.

In the mid -seventies of the twentieth century, the United States has set an arms embargo on Turki on its military intervention in Cyprus.

In the early 1990s, Germany set a ban on an export of weapons to Turki, saying that the armored vehicles he sold to Turki were used locally when the contract determined that it can only be used against an attack by a non -NATO country.

Then in 2020, the United States made the TURKIYE penalty to purchase the Russian S-400 air defense system, through which Turkiye was already created as an arms manufacturer.

Today, there are about 3000 weapons companies in Turki.
