Eberechi Eze admits that he is pleased after scoring his first major goal in England in his 3-0 victory over Latvia in Wembley on Monday evening.

The Crystal Palace ward had a major impact after his arrival as a substitute in the 61st minute. After 15 minutes, Eas cut the Latvian penalty box, escaped from three defenders, and saw his shot deviated to the net, giving England all the three points in the World Cup qualifiers.

He spoke after his big moment, he said: “It is something that I dreamed of from the youth, so it is distinguished for this to happen, grateful to God to allow the opportunity to be here and express the gift. I am grateful forever.

“I always want to influence the game whenever I play, no matter how long I am, and today I am affected. I am happy to get a goal, to contribute. I tried to create a space, tried to destabilize the defender and get my shot and worked.

“I was told to come and make an effect, and this is what I tried to do – just to be directly effective and try to create something.

“Sometimes, it is not easy against teams like this, because there is no big space, but the team was working well. We adopted the plan and continued. I felt it was a strong performance from us. We knew what we needed to do today, and it was important to win. This was the main thing and we did this well.”

Latvia’s match was only the second under the leadership of new director Thomas Tuchille, after winning 2-0 against Albania on Friday, where Eas was an unused alternative.

With a week of training under Tuchel, the pavilion shared his ideas about his continuous adaptation with the playing style of the manager compared to Gareth Southgate.

“We take it in the game,” Iz added. “You can see that it is carrying out a different style of play that suits us for sure, it puts us in the right situations and gives the players the opportunity to be really creative and effective.

“But, of course, the first days are still. We are still learning and trying to understand more of what he wants and how we want us to go in the right direction.”
