BT Group (BTGOF) and Equinix (EquixEquinix has agreed to acquire BT’s data center business in Ireland, which includes two data centers in CityWest and Ballycoolin, Dublin, Equinix announced on Monday. The €59 million transaction is expected to be completed during the first half of 2025, subject to competition and regulatory approval. The transaction follows a review of assets in Ireland and includes two ideally located, well-invested, carrier-neutral facilities totaling approximately 150,000 square feet, a highly experienced team, and global and Irish customers. BT’s asset-light strategy internationally involves moving away from owning and operating data center facilities, towards partnering with organizations of global scale. This asset-light strategy and partnership approach to data center services gives BT a more flexible and commercially scalable model that delivers multiple benefits to customers with services available in more than 560 locations around the world. In the coming months, Equinix will support BT’s data center migration, ensuring uninterrupted operations for customers and positioning the facilities as integral parts of the global Equinix network.
