Thomas Tuchel says that he will not fall players based on the offers in the first days of his term as the director of England, after he highlighted the lack of an influence of Marcus Rashford and Fellan in his first match.
The couple was replaced by Jarud Bowen and Anthony Gordon 74 minutes after a Friday 2-0 victory over Albania, both of them struggled to show the best of them in Wembley.
Speaking after the opening qualifiers for three black in the World Cup, Tuchille said: “I think both wings who started (Voden and Cashleford) were not influential as they could be usually, or as usually in football for the club.
“At the present time, I am not very sure the reason for our struggle to bring the ball to them faster and bring the ball into more open sites. I need to review the match.”
At his press conference before a visit to Latvia on Monday night to Wembley, the German was asked whether he had spoken to Rashford and delegations about what he expected to move forward.
“I spoke to both of them, in front of the group as well. They know that I appreciate this effort, especially outside the ball.”
“We can see in the numbers and when we see the match again, the amount of effort they make in the defense of the high and the counter -pressure, and also in the running numbers.
“Marcus had a lot of run when we had the ball, as we didn’t see him, as we did not use it. It was a little badly lucky with time. From time to time, we supervised it. Phil may not find momentum at the moment.
“But both are very positive, and he has every right to be positive and know exactly what we want. We are ideally trying to bring them in individual situations, and from an ideal point of view, they have confidence to take it.
“Phil needs a little closer to the number 10 than we can offer in this match. Marcus created a great opportunity for Bellingham’s quality, and as I said, there was some running from the ball where we did not use it.
“But, outside the ball, the effort was there and this is what matters.”
Tuchel suggested that he can publish a similar team against Latvia, and that the husband will not be punished.
“This can help and I think it is not the problem of doing it exactly and starting with the same squad,” he added. “But it is not the problem of change because we have some players who are really worth playing and it will also be good to see them perform and give them confidence.
“At the present time, no person will be dropped from the performance point of view. We have done what is required. We can do what is better and we have things to improve and we will focus on it. If we think that some fresh legs can help, we will not be ashamed to do so. But no one needs to be dropped because it is not good enough.”
