The England and Wales Cricket Board has named a 15-man T20I squad for the upcoming multi-format series against India in January-February next year. Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler will lead the team in the series, which will be head coach Brendon McCullum’s first stint in white-ball formats.
England will play three ODIs and five T20Is against India, ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The England team will leave for India on January 17, ahead of the first T20I, scheduled for January 22 in Kolkata. Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai will host the remaining T20I matches in the upcoming series.
Sam Curran and Will Jacks have been left out of the England squad for the upcoming series
Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Dan Mousley, Reece Topley and John Turner, who were part of England’s recent T20I series against West Indies, have been left out of the squad. Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jimmy Smith and Mark Wood are included for the India tour.
Key players like Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt and Jimmy Overton retained their places in the team.
Mark Wood and Jofra Archer lead the pace attack in India T20Is
Mark Wood and Jofra Archer will lead the English attacking line, which includes Saqib Mahmood, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carre and Jimmy Overton. Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed are the two front-line players in the team, while all-rounder Liam Livingstone can contribute with the bowling on a part-time basis if required.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt are likely to open the batting, with Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook featuring in the middle order. Jimmy Smith, who is yet to make his T20I debut, has been included in the squad and could serve as the backup wicket-keeper. Ben Duckett is the reserve opener for this series.

After the T20I series, England will play a three-match ODI series in India starting February 6 in Nagpur. This series will serve as vital preparation for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in a hybrid format in February and March 2025.
