Emiliano Martinez wins the 2024 Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award

Emiliano Martinez has been named the 2024 FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, marking the second time the Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper has won the award.

Martinez has already been awarded the 2024 Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony – It is the second time he has won this award as well – and he has added to his trophy cabinet after being crowned FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year.

The 32-year-old won the award for the first time in 2022 following his heroics at the World Cup in Qatar, and this year he has enjoyed further success on the international stage.

Six other goalkeepers have been nominated for the 2024 FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, including previous winner Ederson. Arsenal’s David Raya was the only other Premier League Shortlisted player.

Real Madrid deputy Andriy Lunin missed out despite the European champions’ impressive form in 2024, while Spain and Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon also failed to usurp Martinez. Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mike Mignan were other candidates.
