Find the right one The temperature in bed can be difficult. Feeling too hot or cold makes it difficult to get down and can wake you up prematurely. Since our mental and physical health depend on sleep, this is a problem. Eight Sleep has the answer. The Eight Sleep Pod 4 is a temperature-regulating mattress topper that tracks your body as you snooze, with a hub that pumps cool or warm water into the cover to help you stay in nod land longer.
When I tested its predecessor, the Eight Sleep Pod 3 (7/10, WIRED recommends), I was wary of the billionaire hype about biohacking, but it blew my mind. Aside from increasing comfort, Best sleep trackers They all told the same story: My wife and I slept longer and got deeper, REM sleep with the Eight Sleep Capsule than without it. The Eight Sleep Pod 4 offers some welcome improvements, including greater comfort, quieter operation, and easy-to-use tap controls, so you don’t have to reach for your phone at night.

Unfortunately, better sleep doesn’t come cheap. The Pod 4 Cover and Hub for a queen-sized bed costs $2,599, but you also have to get a year-long subscription to Autopilot for an additional $199. If you already have a subscription, you can transfer it to a new Pod, but you can no longer purchase an Eight Sleep Pod without an Autopilot subscription. The Super King I I tested in the UK costs £2,699, with a year’s autopilot at £199. It’s a real investment, but proper sleep can make a difference.
Straw hit
The Eight Sleep Pod 4 housing and hub come in two large boxes. The mattress topper has a rubber tube on the inside and a dark plush soft material on top. It is elastic to fit your mattress comfortably, and the tube must be routed from the top to connect to the hub. The hub is about the size of a desktop computer, with a fabric front and a large 8″ logo. The hub is the brains of the process, cooling or heating the water and pumping it around the lid.
Setup with the Pod 4 was similar but much faster than with the Pod 3. You pull the cylinder off the top of the hub and pour water up to the fill line. The preparation process is down to about 10 minutes from a few hours in the previous version. You can connect the hub to your Wi-Fi network using the mobile app. The Pod 4 housing is more comfortable than the Pod 3, and the hub is much quieter. It never broke 30 dB when measured. It makes a subtle hum, like Sleep sound white noise.
