Drea Kelly reveals why she kept her last name
Andrea (aka Dre Kelly) recently sat down with Carlos King Podcast “Reality With The King” and wasted no time addressing the drama surrounding R. Kelly. Furthermore, she confirmed that she first met Robert when she was just 19 years old and he was 27 years old. During the interview, she called out people who have a problem with her keeping the R&B singer’s last name despite everything she’s been through and what she’s been accused of. If you need a refresher, TSR previously reported that R. Kelly is serving Bidding for 30 years For sex trafficking.
“Ultimately, people shouldn’t be worried about why I keep the last name. They should be worried about what I do with the last name. Because the last name ‘Kelly’ gets 20/20 for my following. The last name got me on CNN to talk about Awareness of domestic violence and being an advocate for it. “Last name Kelly allowed me to go to military bases and talk about abuse,” Drea said.
Draya went on to say that the real “gag” is that no one would even blink if her last name wasn’t Kelly. “My name means more to you than it does to me. You’re not trying to be patronizing, you’re just curious why, because my last name is Kelly.”
Drea is getting real about her relationship with R. Kelly and speaking out about the alleged abuse
Drea kept it completely real, admitting that she wasn’t checking out R. Kelly (aka Robert Kelly) while she was initially on tour with him. But after she discovered her ex-fiancé’s infidelity, she gave Robert a chance. She told Carlos that when she returned from the tour, she learned that her fiancé was having a child, but a DNA test later showed that the child was not his.
The dancer also explained that after her ex-fiancé got dirty, R. Kelly stepped in to lean on her shoulder. Their relationship eventually became tighter while working together since she practically turned into his creative director.
However, Draya opened up about how things went in their relationship, claiming that Robert began abusing her. She said she had no idea who he really was at first due to his “narcissistic” ways. The breaking point for her came when he attacked her in front of their daughter, Joan. For context, the estranged duo share three children — Joan, also known as Poko Abi, Jaha Kelly, and Robert Kelly Jr. Draya also mentioned that her kids could tell that the atmosphere was completely different when Robert wasn’t around compared to when he was.
And Draya continued to not hold back when she addressed women who troll her on social media, especially those who constantly compare her to Tina Turner. She explained that the only difference between her and Tina was this: Tina sang on stage with her attacker while she danced on stage with her.
“I brought a full uterus. I’ve given birth to children, so for women to even say something like that is sad to me, and because you can’t record what I’m doing, because you haven’t done the research, you think it’s okay to go on the Internet and say, ‘She’s not doing anything,'” Tina Turner did something.” “The only difference between me and Tina Turner is that she sang on stage with Ike, and I danced on stage with Robert,” Drea continued.
