The US government agency, which organizes television, says it opens an investigation into Disney’s diversity and integration practices, in the latest sign of pressure on media companies.
The Chairman of the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) sent Brendan Car message To Disney on Friday to inform the company and its ABC news unit, about the plan.
He said that this step was driven by fears that the company was promoting diversity “in a way that does not correspond” to government organization.
A Disney spokesman said the company was reviewing the message.
“We look forward to engaging with the committee to answer her questions,” Disney spokesman said in a statement.
The Federal Communications Committee (FCC) in Disney also comes amid a broader campaign on DEI practices by the Trump administration, with traces exceeding the United States.
French companies with US government contracts have received a letter from the American embassy in France this week, asking them to log in and comply with Trump’s executive order that prohibits Dei programs.
The message said, “The message applies to all suppliers and service providers in the American government, regardless of their nationality and the country where they work.”
In a letter addressed to Robert Egger, CEO of Disney Company, the head of the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) said he wanted to make sure that the media company “ends any and all discriminatory initiatives in essence, not only the name.”
He added: “I want to determine whether Disney’s actions – whether they are continuing or finished recently – were at all times with the applicable FCC regulations.”
Car was a member of the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) since 2017 and was appointed to lead the agency by Trump in November.
Since his appointment in this post, he adapted to check media companies, launched NPR and PBS investigations and the information required from major technology companies including Apple and Google, about their use of services that affect how news articles are classified.
The Federal Communications Committee (FCC) has also announced investigations into Verizon, Comcast and its media unit, NBCunivesal on its diversity and fair initiatives (Dei).
Disney, who is famous for cartoon and entertainment gardens, has changed DEI policies earlier this year.
“While I saw reports that Disney recently retreated some Dei programs, important concerns are still in place,” Carr wrote in the letter.
“I want to make sure that Disney and ABC have not violated the employment opportunities regulations in the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) by enhancing bleaching forms of DEI,” he said.
Carr said he wanted information about the rules that govern the representation of diversity in her characters, among other initiatives.
The investigation is not the first time that Disney was a political goal.
Last year, she agreed to pay 15 million dollars to settle a lawsuit against Donald Trump after ABC star said that the president was “responsible for rape.”
The New York jury had previously decided that Trump was responsible for “sexual assault”, which has a definition defined under the New York Law.
The Republican Governor in Florida Ron Desantis also spent years in a dispute with Disney, after the company criticized the state law, known as “not less homosexuals” who restricts the teaching of sexual activity in schools.
Disney was previously a target for the conservatives allegedly adopting “wake up” messages in her films.
