Russian -born Russian scientist DARIA KASATKINA turns loyalty to Australia after accepting her request for permanent residence.

The 27 -year -old was criticizing Russia’s restrictions and attitudes towards gay rights and strongly opposed the war in Ukraine.

In a statement posted on her Instagram account on Friday, Kasatkina, winner of eight individual titles, wrote: “I am happy to tell you all that my request for permanent residency has been accepted by the Australian government.

“Australia is a place I love, an incredibly welcoming and a place where I feel completely at home. I love to be in Melbourne and I look forward to making my house there.

“As part of this, I am proud to announce that I will represent my new country, Australia, in my career career from this point onwards.

“It is clear that there are parts of this decision that was not easy. I want to express my thanks and the gratitude of my family and the coaches and everyone who has supported me throughout the tennis journey so far.

“I will always respect and great appreciation for my roots, but I am pleased to start this new chapter in my career and my life under the Australian flag. Thank you all for your understanding and continuous support.”
