Comedy of errors! Sam Billings, Tanveer Sangha’s tantalizing Pakistan-like moment saves Moises Henriques

Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques had a sensational outing with the bat in the match against Sydney Thunder in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. In what was a Sydney derby, the match between the two teams was played at the Sydney Showdown Stadium in Sydney on Saturday (December 21).

Chasing 164 runs, Moises Henriques came to bat at number four after the team lost wickets in quick succession. The all-rounder struggled in his innings from the start as he couldn’t get going, looked nervous with the bat, and failed to drive from the front.

Even after getting a second life in his roles, he failed to cash it in. However, the dropped ball gave flashbacks to the Pakistan-like moment of play, as Sydney Thunder players Tanveer Sangha and goalkeeper Sam Billings produced a comedy of errors.

Tanveer Sangha bowled a leg break that was short on his leg stump. Moises Henriques went on the back foot to pull and got the top edge that went straight up, looked like it would be easy to catch, and the Sydney Sixers captain had to come back.

But as they ascended, Sam Billings and Tanveet Sangha ran forward and then, eventually, left the ball to each other as the ball fell between them. The duo then shared a few words as Moises Henriques got another life in the game. Looking at this David Warner was very angry.

Moises Henriques finished with a 17-run innings off 22 balls

Fortunately, the chance to go down did not cost Sydney Thunder much, as the next time, Lockie Ferguson removed Moises Henriques. The fielder bowled a knuckleball short on middle, allowing the batter room for loft. He ended up hitting high on the bat and curling into extra cover.

Moises Henriques finished with a 17-run innings off 22 balls. But after the wicket, Jordan Silk (36*) and Ben Dwarshuis (20*) produced a monumental effort with the bat as Sydney Sixers chased down the target with five wickets in hand and claimed crucial points in the league.

Ben Dwarshuis, who also picked two wickets with the ball, won the man-of-the-match award and spoke about his innings, saying he enjoyed batting with Jordan Silk. While talking about his performance, he explained:

“You play the game to be in those moments. Selke and I were saying – let’s enjoy this and do our best. That was one of the best moments we’ve had. We misused them well in the gaps. It’s good to get a goal.” A few overs through the middle, credit to Greeny who hit the ball well, made us wait until the last ball as he didn’t execute it perfectly.

“I was just trying to stay really still. Watch and react, trust my hands to get the job done. There was no launcher, just a really nice club. I was just trying to stand still and swing hard. It’s good to connect a little bit.”
