The Chinese Embassy in Ottawa confirmed the executions of four dual Canadian citizens for drug crimes.

Canada’s Foreign Ministry said that China had carried out four Canadian citizens due to drug -related crimes this year, despite multiple appeals to the sacrifice.

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie told the correspondents that she “condemning” the executions strongly, and that everyone and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had asked for indulgence in every case.

Jolly did not provide further details about the four Canadians due to privacy requests from their families.

“She is still steadfast in her opposition to using the death penalty in all cases, everywhere.”

While the executions of Westerners in China are relatively rare, the four Canadians were also dual Chinese citizens – a situation that Beijing does not recognize.

The Chinese embassy in Ottawa told the Canadian media that the four had been granted a fair trial and the legal procedures due to “a strict consensus of the law.”

“China is a legal state. Whoever violates the China law must bear responsibility in accordance with the law,” the embassy said in a statement published by the Globe & Mail.

The statement said: “The facts of the crimes committed by the Canadian citizens participating in the cases are clear, and the evidence is strong and sufficient.”

“The horrific and inhuman executions of Canadian citizens by the Chinese authorities should be an invitation to wake up to Canada,” said Kitty Navandand, Secretary -General of the English -speaking department at Amnesty International in Canada.

About 100 Canadians are currently being held in China, according to the Canadian media, and many of them are in drug crimes. One of the highest prominent cases is Robert Shellberg, who was originally sentenced in 2014 to 15 years in prison. His penalty was later changed to the death penalty after the retrial in January 2019.

Canada’s CEO of Huawei Mang and Anto at the request of law enforcement in the United States in late 2018, as well as Beijing’s detention from two Canadians on charges of espionage in the same year, and the allegations of Chinese overlap in the Canadian elections, led to a sharp decrease in the Chinese Canadian relations.

Tension seems to have now spread to the commercial relationship between the two countries.

Earlier this month, Beijing announced definitions about Canadian agricultural goods after Ottawa imposed a 100 percent tax on Chinese electric cars last year.

Peter Humphrey, a former British investigator who is defending foreigners detained in China, told the Globe and Post newspaper that China “is implementing a large number of foreign citizens” in the quick caliphate “unprecedented.”

“This is a truly strong indication that China has no intention of moving things with Canada,” he said.
