China has implemented four Canadians of drug crime this year

The Canadian authorities confirmed that four Canadians were executed in China for drug -related charges earlier this year.

Canada Foreign Minister Missiani Jolie said that all of them were double citizens and their identities were blocked.

A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Canada Utawa urged “to stop making irresponsible notes”, as critics were afraid of additional contraction in relations between countries after years of stress.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that it had acted “according to the law”, while the embassy said that there is “strong and sufficient” evidence of their crimes.

The embassy said that Beijing “fully guaranteed the rights and interests of the Canadian citizens concerned,” and urged Canada to respect “judicial sovereignty in China.”

China does not recognize dual citizenship and takes a difficult situation on drug crimes. However, the death penalty is rare for foreigners.

Jolie said that she was following the cases “closely” for several months and tried with other officials, including former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to stop executions.

In a statement to the Canadian media, a spokeswoman for global affairs in Canada, Charlotte McCleid, said that Canada “has repeatedly called for the heads of these individuals at its maximum levels and is still fixed in its opposition to using the death penalty in all cases, everywhere.”

China imposes a death penalty on serious crimes, including those related to drugs, corruption and spying. While the number of executions is secret, human rights groups believe that China has one of the highest death rates in the world.

“The shocking and brilliant executions of Canadian citizens by the Chinese authorities should be an invitation to wake up to Canada,” said Kitty Nvabandi, of Amnesty International in Canada. “We have destroyed the families of the victims, and we keep them in our hearts as they are trying to treat what cannot be conceived.

“Our ideas also go to the loved ones of Canadian citizens who are kept in the death row or whose place was not in the Chinese prison system.”

In 2019, the Canadian patriot Robert Lloyd Shelinberg was sentenced to death in China for drug smuggling, in a high -level case convicted of the Canadian government. It was not among the Canadians who were executed.

“We will continue to condemn not only not only, but we also ask for other Canadians who face similar positions,” Jolie said on Wednesday.

The relations between Canada and China have been iceberg since 2018, after Canada has detained a Chinese executive of communications, Meng and Anto, at the request of an American delivery. China arrested two Canadians shortly after that, both were released now.

In 2023, the Canadian media issued reports, many of which relied on the intelligence that was leaked, on detailed allegations of Chinese interference in the federal elections in the country. China denied reports, describing it as “baseless and famous.”

Recently, China has imposed a retaliatory tariff on some Canadian farm and food imports after putting Ottawa on Chinese electrical, steel and aluminum.
