Cameron Diaz shares how therapy is strengthening her marriage to Benji Madden

In a recent interview with her brother-in-law, Joel Madden, on his “Artist Friendly” radio show, Cameron Diaz spoke about her relationship and codependency therapy as a major factor in the strength of her nine-year marriage to Benji Madden.
“This is what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it,” said the 52-year-old actress, who has two children with the “Good Charlotte” musician.
She stressed that the treatment prevents her and Benji from doing “the same thing over and over again.”
According to Daily MailDiaz noted that therapy encourages her and her husband to ask: “Why isn’t it working? How can I make it work? What’s my role? What’s the other person’s job?”

Diaz also highlighted how therapy taught them to be more “self-aware” and “a little more willing to hopefully reach a different outcome.”
“(It helps us) either solve something or create a new understanding of a new process together,” the “Charlie’s Angel” star explained.

Cameron Diaz talks commitment and career balance with Benji Madden

During the conversation, Diaz explained that when times get tough, she and Benjy make a point of staying committed to their partnership.
“Both people are not 100 percent every day,” she said. “Even if you’re mad at each other and don’t want to see each other, and you’re tired of each other, there’s still 100 percent commitment to marriage and partnership and getting things done in the family. If it’s not 100 percent, it just doesn’t work if someone One has a disability.”
The My Best Friend’s Wedding star has also thought about balancing her career as she prepares for her return to the screen in Back in Action, due for release in January.
During Fortune’s Powerful Women Summit in October, she praised Benji for his support.

“My husband is the best,” Diaz said. He was like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his actions says: “It’s time for us to support you and let your mother step up and do what she wants.”

The couple recently welcomed their second child

Diaz and musician Benjy tied the knot in 2015 during an intimate ceremony at her home in Beverly Hills.
Four years later, in December 2019, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Radix, via surrogate. Radix is scheduled to celebrate her fifth birthday on December 30.
In March of this year, Diaz and the “The River” singer announced the arrival of their second child, a son named Cardinal, who was also born via surrogate.
Diaz shared the good news on Instagram with an illustration that read: “A little bird whispered to me.”
In a comment on the post, she expressed her gratitude: “We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our son, Cardinal Madden.”
Diaz continued: “He’s amazing, and we’re all so happy to have him here! For the baby’s safety and privacy, we won’t be publishing any photos – but he’s really cute. We’re so happy and grateful.”
The proud mother concluded her post by writing: “Sending lots of love from our family to yours. Best wishes and good evening!!”

Cameron Diaz feels “more than lucky” to have her two children

In March, shortly after the couple announced the arrival of their son Cardinal, a source revealed to People magazine Diaz feels “very lucky” to have expanded his family.
“They were always hoping to have a second child because they love being parents,” the insider shared.
“For many years, Cameron wanted to be a mother,” they continued. “She gets very emotional when she talks about the long journey to motherhood. She feels very lucky to now have two children.”
The actress said that being a mother is the “best part of my life.”

In a 2020 conversation with Who What Wear CEO Katherine Power, the “Bad Teacher” actress expressed her excitement about motherhood.
“I love being a mother. This is the best, best, best part of my life,” Diaz said. People magazine. I’m so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to do this with Benji and we’re having the best time.
“It’s so wonderful. I feel so happy,” she added.
