Cristiano Ronaldo has always been confident of Portugal’s chances of progressing to the semi -finals of the Nations League, even after an early penalty in their match against Denmark on Sunday.

Portugal captain had rejected a penalty by Danish goalkeeper Casper Schm where he saw his team wandering in a 5-2 dominant victory after an additional time in Lisbon.

Portugal ended with a total victory of 5-3 and reserved their place in the fourth final, where they will face Germany.

Ronaldo told reporters: “I felt that even after I lost the punishment – (that happens) only for those who try – we will advance,” Ronaldo told reporters.

“That’s what happened. It was an amazing night, Portugal played very well; he scored five goals against Denmark is not easy at all.

“We all deserve congratulations: the players, those who were on the field, all of them Portuguese. We are all in the same boat and it was extremely important to advance to the four finals.”

Ronaldo, the top scorer of the leading goals in international men’s football with 136 goals, holds the world record for the most international manifestations in 219.

He soon responded to a lost penalty kick by the second goal network of Portugal from the game.

The veteran striker was openly criticizing his team in the first stage, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Denmark in Copenhagen. However, he was quick to encourage his teammates on the apostasy.

“There are such games, there are bad days,” said Ronaldo, 40, after that defeat. “I didn’t play at all, the team did not play at all, but it is part of life. I want to leave the alvalade (Lisbon) stadium with my head high.”

Certainly, Portugal did this on Sunday, when Francisco Trensu registered twice, and Gunsalo Ramos added another additional time to close victory.

As the 2019 Champions League, Portugal continues to show its power during the era of coach Roberto Martinez, after winning 20 games out of 28 games while suffering from only four defeats.

But the semi -finals will be a tougher test, especially after Germany’s demolition of Italy.
