Budget 2025: Days before the Union Budget 2025, a major reshuffle was announced in the Finance Ministry. In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced that Revenue Secretary Arunesh Chawla will be transferred to the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), while DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey will be the new Revenue Secretary.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey will continue to serve as Finance Minister, the notification stated.

Meanwhile, Arunesh Chawla will also hold additional charge of the posts of Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, and Secretary, Ministry of Culture until appointment of the regular post or until further notice, whichever is earlier.

Chawla was appointed as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry on December 25 last year, while he was serving as Secretary Pharmaceuticals Department in the Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry. He continued to hold the Ministry of Culture until then. The post of Revenue Minister fell vacant after Sanjay Malhotra was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Pandey, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, was also serving as Secretary, Public Enterprises Department.

The changes come days before the Union Budget is presented on February 1. This amendment is seen as a strategic adjustment for the government as it prepares for the crucial fiscal planning period ahead.
