The Chairman of Adani Group, Gautam Adani, has a great ability to achieve consistent work-life balance and discusses the 70-hour work week. The industrialist said that one feels balanced when one does the things one loves to do, while adding life becomes simple when one accepts the fact that one is mortal.
“Work-life balance shouldn’t be imposed on you, work-life balance shouldn’t be imposed on you. Let’s say someone spends four hours with family and finds enjoyment in it, or if someone else spends eight hours and enjoys it” That’s their credit, though That if you spend eight hours, The wife will be happy (The wife will run away),” the industrialist noted.
He added that children also notice and notice that there is no world outside their family and work.
“Your career is balanced when you do the things you love to do… For us, it’s either family or work, we don’t have a world outside of this… Our children also notice it and notice that. No one has come here permanently,” Adani said. When one understands that, life becomes simple.”
Adani’s comment comes amid a controversy sparked by Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, after the latter called for working 70 hours a week so that India can compete with advanced economies.
Defending his remark of working 70 hours a week, Murthy said at the centenary launch of the Indian Chamber of Commerce that Indians have a lot to do when compared to the best global companies.
“We have to raise our aspirations because 800 million Indians are getting free rations. This means 800 million Indians are living in poverty. If we are not in a position to work hard, who will work hard?” Murthy said.
Moreover, Adani was not the only one who questioned Murthy’s advice on working 70 hours a week. There is a huge difference in status between founders and ordinary employees, Emcure Pharmaceuticals CEO Namita Thapar said in a recent interview.
She also said that founders like her have huge financial stakes in their companies and are therefore willing to work long hours. Thapar also said that this is not possible for permanent employees and there should be a fixed number of working hours for them.
She also believes that the idea of working long hours for regular employees is problematic because of the impact it can have on their physical and mental health.
