Biden administration officials noted stamina problems in president’s first few months in office: report

Members of President Biden’s staff noticed his fading stamina and increasing confusion during his first few months in office, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper based its report on interviews with nearly 50 people, including current and former members White House staff who interacted directly with the president, as well as lawmakers.

One former aide noted that a national security official explained why a meeting in the spring of 2021 was canceled altogether.

He noted the official saying: “He’s had good days and bad days, and today was a bad day, so we’ll address that tomorrow.”

Democratic lawmakers in Congress reported that Biden was less available than previous presidents. They said he had few meetings with members of Congress, and those meetings were often short.

“The Biden White House was more isolated than most other places,” Representative Adam Smith, Democrat of Washington State, told the newspaper. “I spoke with Barack Obama on a number of occasions when he was president and I wasn’t even chairman of the committee.”

Democratic Representative from Connecticut, Jim Himes, echoed his words, saying: “I did not have any personal contact with this president. I had more of a personal contact with Obama, which is kind of strange because I was much younger than him.”

Even members of Biden’s cabinet quickly stopped requesting phone calls with the president, realizing from interactions with staff that the calls were unwelcome, the Wall Street Journal reported.

A source familiar with the newspaper’s reporting said the outlet conducted recorded interviews with a number of Cabinet members who rejected allegations that Biden lacks mental acuity. Cabinet members include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan and others, the source said. The magazine did not include their comments in its report.

Biden has held less than half the number of full Cabinet meetings held by his recent predecessors. President-elect Trump held 25 such meetings, former President Obama held 19 in his first term, but Biden held only eight.

The White House rejected the content of the newspaper’s report in a statement provided to Fox News Digital, saying that Biden’s political achievements provide “indisputable evidence” of his qualifications and leadership.

“President Biden speaks with members of his Cabinet daily, and with most members several times a week, and stays in close contact with them on implementing key laws and strengthening our national security. During every presidency, there are inevitably some in Washington who don’t.” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Trump “has as much time with any president as they would prefer, but that never means the president doesn’t engage fully with others, as this president does.”

“Cabinet meetings are an important tradition, but the contemporary business environment means they can be fewer and far between. As academics who study the presidency have emphasized, every member of the Cabinet — let alone the president — are busy managers and more can afford to do so.” “It is accomplished on behalf of the American people by speaking with the president individually or in smaller meetings with officials who have relevant portfolios,” he added.

Fox News Digital reached out to Cabinet officials and their departments, asking them whether they believe Biden is fit to serve this week, and whether they stand by previous statements of confidence in his ability to continue.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement in September that he had “full confidence in President Biden’s ability to do his job.”

“As I have said before, I fully prepare for my meetings with President Biden, knowing that his questions will be detail-oriented, probing, and precise. In our exchanges, the President always draws on our prior conversations and past events in his analysis of issues and reaching his conclusions,” he said.

on monday, The Department of Homeland Security said The Secretary stands by those comments.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo called Biden “one of the most accomplished presidents in American history who continues to effectively lead our country with a steady hand.”

“As someone who is actually in the room when the president meets with the Cabinet and foreign leaders, I can tell you he is a determined and extraordinary leader,” Raimondo said.

A company spokesperson said this week that Raimondo stands by those comments.
