A tech professional from Mumbai, Ushain Bhat, has alleged that a Rapido cab driver verbally abused and threatened her after she refused to pay extra for her ride. Taking to the social media platform

Bhatt shared that she booked a ride through the economy service Rapido, which usually offers affordable rides in hatchbacks. However, the designated car was from Rapido’s Premium segment, which typically consists of higher-priced sedans. It appears that the driver had included his car in both categories to secure more reservations, and demanded an additional payment.

When Bhatt refused to pay the additional fee, the driver allegedly became aggressive. In the screenshot she posted, he reportedly wrote: “Cancel kar do varna pel dunga khade khade” (Cancel the trip, otherwise I will hit you here). He also insulted her with comments like “Bhikhari ki aulad” (child beggar) and mocked her financial decisions by saying: “Saste me chahiye payal ja” (If you want it cheap, walk).

Bhatt stated that she eventually canceled the trip and booked another taxi through Uber, while the Rapido driver canceled the booking himself after the incident. Speaking to Hindustan Times, she expressed concern over the inappropriate behavior shown by the service provider.

In response to the allegations, Rapido issued a public apology through its customer service department on So we can prioritize action against the captain and provide you with updates.”

The incident sparked widespread criticism of Rapido, with many users calling for tougher measures and better screening procedures for drivers.

One user asked: “What in the world is going on? Why is it always Rapido?”

Another said: “I had a similar incident, but mine was with the same Rapido customer service team!”

This incident adds to a growing list of complaints about inappropriate and threatening behavior from ride-hailing drivers, highlighting ongoing concerns about rider safety and accountability in the expanding gig economy.
