Bengal create history with a chase of 390 against Haryana in the quarter-finals of the Women’s One-Day Cup

The Bangladesh cricket team created history by registering the highest successful run in women’s cricket. They achieved this remarkable feat in the quarter-finals of the Women’s One-Day Championship on Monday, December 23, at Niranjan Shah Ground C, Rajkot.

Chasing a daunting target of 390 runs as Bengal’s opener Dara Gujar and Sasthi Mondal put up a solid 100-run partnership in just 55 balls. Gujjar scored 69 off 49 balls while Mondal contributed 52 off 29 balls. Mita Paul had a quiet outing, as he was dismissed for just 12 off 12 balls by Sheetal Rana.

However, Tanusree Sarkar and Priyanka Bhalla took charge, combining for a brilliant 111-run partnership off 97 balls. Sarkar played a stunning knock, scoring 113 off 83 balls, including 20 boundaries. Prativa Rana scored 28 off 26 balls.

Priyanka remained unbeaten, taking Bengal home with a winning 88 off 81 balls, including eight boundaries and one six. Bengal won by five wickets with five balls remaining, setting a new record for the highest successful run chase in women’s cricket.

Shafali Verma’s 197-run knock went in vain

Bengal Women won the toss and chose to bowl. Haryana’s opening pair of captains Shafali Verma Reema Sisodia played brilliantly, producing a brilliant partnership that lasted 173 runs off 140 balls. Tanusree Sarkar made Bengal’s first breakthrough, dismissing Reema for 58 off 72 balls.

Dia Yadav had a tough outing, scoring just seven runs. However, at the other end, out of favor Indian opener Shafali Verma dominated.

The 20-year-old narrowly missed out on a well-deserved double century, falling just three runs short. She scored a brilliant 197 off 115 balls, including 22 fours and 11 sixes.

Triveni Vasistha contributed 46 off 55 balls while Soniya Mendhiya added 61 off 41 balls. Haryana ended their innings at 389-5 in 50 overs. Tanusree took three wickets for Bengal.
