Bangaluru homeowners to face additional monthly fees from April. Even small homes will not save

Starting April 1, Pangaluru residents will face additional fees on top of their property tax bills – new user fees for collecting and disposing of local waste, approved by the Karnataka government.

This policy, according to Decian Herald’s report, applies to all the city’s domestic waste generators.

The fee structure includes six panels based on the size of the property. The buildings, which are up to 600 square feet, will pay $ 10 per month, while fees will be imposed on property more than 4000 square feet $ 400 per month. For example, a three -storey model on 30×40 square feet can witness a monthly fee of $ 150. This is in addition to the current CESS for the SWM, which has already collected as part of the property tax, which aims to finance public space maintenance.

The fees are expected to generate about 750 rupees in the annual revenue. According to the President of the Commissioner BBMP TUSAR GIRINATH, the BSWML customization has been increased to 1400 rupees. “We hope that we will create at least 750 rupees of the user fee. The remaining amount will be provided to BSWML from other revenue sources,” it quoted in the report as saying.

By comparison, the agency previously received 1085 rupees from BBMP boxes.

Although the official order has not been issued yet, the Ministry of Urban Development – supervised by CM DK Shivakumar – agreed to the proposal earlier this year. BBMP is now planning to start collecting user fees as well as property tax starting from the fiscal year 2025-26, as the BBMP Commissioner (Financial) Dr. Harish Kumar P during the last city budget announced.

This is the first time that BBMP confessed to the implementation of a user fee for home waste management, although BSWML submitted its proposal last November, citing the rules of solid waste management, 2016 and various court orders.

Not everyone is on board. Poongothai Paramasivam of the BNP Party BNP asked about the need for new fees: “BBMP has abundant money. Before considering user fees, you should justify why the current budget is insufficient. Where is there no money? Why is there no review or public disclosure of SWM?”

She added that although Swachhhhhhhhshan principles allow urban bodies to collect such drawings, “they are not mandatory.”
