The armed group claims that it took control of Adan Yabaal, but the Somali army opposes the result of the battle.

The young armed group claimed that it took control of Adan Yabaal, a city in central Somalia and a logistical center for government forces, about 220 km (130 miles) north of the capital, Mogadishu.

The fighters fired raids before dawn on Wednesday, forcing the army to retreat after fierce battles, according to a security officer reported by the Ankamulu News Agency.

However, the report was disputed by the army. Captain Hussein Olu, a military officer in Eddan Yabal, told Reuters that government forces had pushed the group back.

“The terrorists launched a desperate attack on the sites of the Somali army in the Adan Yabal area this morning,” Somali Captain Mohamed Ali told Agence France Presse from a nearby city. He said: “There was a violent fighting that is still continuing throughout the city.”

There were no reports on losses.

Young people are fighting the Somali government for more than 16 years and targeting government officials and military personnel.

Adan Yabaal has a strategic military importance and acts as a decisive logistical axis linking Herhabil State to the neighboring central state in Galmouj. He was recovered from young people in 2022.

“After the prayers early in the morning, we heard a designed explosion, then gunfire,” Fatema Nour, a four -year -old, told Reuters by phone from Aden Yabal. “We attacked the youth from two directions,” she added.

President Hassan Mahmoud, who is from the area, visited the city in March to meet the military leaders there.

The new African Union’s peace conservation mission has replaced a greater power at the beginning of the year, but its financing is inconceivable, as the United States is opposing a plan to move to the United Nations financing model.
