At least 12 people were killed in Honduras, a crash plane off the Caribbean coast

Officials said at least 12 people were killed after a plane from the Caribbean coast crashed Monday evening.

The plane – run by Honduran Airlines, crashed into the sea within a minute of taking off from the island of Rawatan.

Honduran’s National Police and Fire Department said five people were rescued, while no one has been found yet.

The cause of the accident is not yet known, but the mayor of Rawatan told the local media that it was not due to the weather, which is normal. The Honduran Civil Aviation Agency said the investigation is underway.

The Jetstream 32 plane took off from Juan Manuel Gallium International Airport on the island at 18:18 local time (00:18 GMT on Tuesday), and was binding on the Goluson International Airport in Leiba on the main mainland of Honduran.

Civil aviation official, Carlos Badilla, and quoted Agence France -Presse news agency, said the plane “took a sharp turn to the right of the runway and fell into the water.”

In a statement on social media, the government expressed “solidarity” with the families of the victims.

He added: “The Honduras government regrets the tragic accident in Rawatan and joins the national mourning.”

After the accident, the President of Honduran XIOMARA CASTRO “activated” the country’s emergency committee immediately, consisting of all emergency services including the army, police, firefighting, Red Cross and the Ministry of Health.

She wrote on X, she said that the committee team was “working tireless” to provide assistance.

“May God protect people’s lives,” added Castro.

The videos shared by social media officials showed rescue teams that operate in the dark along a rock coast, with small boats and resiliences.

In a post on X with Tire, Honduran’s armed forces said that the survivors suffering from injuries were transferred to a hospital in San Pedro Sola by air force aircraft.

According to local media reports, he was among the well -known music dead in Honduran Aurelio Martinez Swazu.

Swazo was a member of Garifuna, a people of original and mixed origin of Caribbean origin from the island of St. Vincent, which has a distinctive musical style.
