Argentine President Javier Miley is likely to attend Trump’s inauguration

Argentine President Javier Miley will likely attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, according to an Argentine diplomatic official. While his attendance has not been publicly confirmed, the official said all signs point to Miley traveling to Washington, D.C., for the swearing-in ceremony.

A spokesman for Trump’s transition team did not respond to a request for comment.

Miley is the first world leader expected to be in Washington for the event scheduled for January 20, although arrangements are being made for others to join. State Department records dating back to 1874 show that no world leader attended the American transfer of power ceremony. Traditionally, foreign ambassadors and their spouses represent their governments at this quadrennial event.

Miley met Trump at Mar-a-Lago shortly after the November election.
