Development came amid reports that India is considering one of the largest tariff cuts in recent years, and may hide some of the tariffs completely. It aims to address the mutual definitions of US President Donald Trump that threaten Indian exports. New Delhi is considering reducing the customs tariff on more than half of the United States’ imports worth 23 billion dollars in the initial stage of employment discussions.

The report said that the central government aims to reduce the impact of commercial tariffs, which threaten the influence of 87 % of India’s exports to the United States, at a value of $ 66 billion.

Trump’s mutual definitions are scheduled to be implemented from April 2.

In discussions with the United States, India was said to have expressed its willingness to reduce the customs tariffs on 55 % of the American goods currently import, which currently bears a tariff ranging from 5 % to 30 %.

This suggestion depends on India to obtain concessions on mutual definitions from the United States. Dialogue is part of the ongoing efforts to end a trade agreement aimed at eliminating the escalation of confronting the customs tariff between the two countries.

India is also considering wider tariffs to reduce barriers uniformly, but these discussions are still in the initial stages and may not be treated immediately in talks with the United States.

The United States maintains a trade deficit of $ 45.6 billion with India, while the average weighted tariff is about 2.2 %, compared to 12 % in India. The recent talks, which started during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States in February, are seeking to address these differences. Customs tariff negotiations are part of the broader discussions led by American Assistant Representative Brendan Lynch, who is currently visiting India with a delegation for more conversations.

At the same time, according to reports, the White House is considering a softer approach where it is unlikely to face industries such as cars, pharmaceutical preparations and semi -conductors instant fees. India has not ended potential tariff cuts, as officials indicate that options such as sectoral modifications and product negotiations separately can be explored instead of wide cuts.
