American academic leaders are united against Trump’s Higher Education policies

More than 100 university universities, university and scientific community published a joint statement on Tuesday opposing the Tram administration’s treatment of higher education institutions, where they met to speak after Harvard University said that the administration threatens its independence.

The statement, which the presidents signed from institutions such as Princeton and Berun, and the University of Hawaii and the College of Contect State, criticized what it described as “unprecedented government transgression and political intervention that is now endangered American higher education.”

“We are open to constructive reform and do not oppose legitimate government control,” the statement said. “However, we must oppose the unjustified government infiltration in the lives of those who learn, live and work on our university campus.”

The White House did not respond to a request to comment on the statement.

The joint statement on Tuesday is the latest resistance offer from higher education leaders in the United States, as the Trump administration seeks to take advantage of its financial weight to reform academic circles.

On April 14, Harvard University rejected many demands from the administration, which seeks to supervise the body and faculty and curricula at Harvard University in a clear effort to limit what the liberal bias consider to the university.

Since his inauguration in January, Republican President Trump has coordinated the United States’ higher universities, saying that they had rushed to insult the protests supporting the Palestinians last year and allowed the lack of supreme to communicate on the campus.

His administration also targeted universities for other issues such as the rights of transgender people, their diversity, stock and integration programs, and threatened to block federal financing on these issues.

Columbia University has been an early goal, but in recent weeks, the administration focused on Harvard.
