Amazon strike extends to New York’s Staten Island warehouse

The strike came after Teamsters said Amazon ignored a December 15 deadline set by the union to negotiate new contracts for higher wages, better benefits and safer working conditions.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien encouraged the newest depots to join the strike, saying it takes “courage” to stand up against Large companies.

The Staten Island workers join thousands of other workers from seven locations in Skokie, Illinois; New York City; atlanta; San Francisco; And Southern California.

Although Teamsters members say the union represents about 10,000 workers at 10 Amazon locations in the United States, the company does not acknowledge the workers’ affiliation with the union.

Teamsters spokeswoman Cara Denise responded to Amazon’s statement, saying the company is “deceiving the American public with its false narratives.”
