A Reddit user recently sparked an online discussion after their decision to voluntarily abandon his American green card, citing a set of causes of high taxes to frustrating immigration procedures.

In a publication that gained a great power, the user wrote: “Today I received an official confirmation that giving up the green card was recorded after the introduction of the I-407. I really felt happy and relieved after receiving this email. The green card was not more than me. I will travel to the United States to visit some friends once at some time. Living in the United States is not a good option for me.

The user, a citizen of Argentina who is now living in the Middle East, explained their reasons for abandoning permanent residence, pointing to “a high, disturbing tax to fill taxes every year, tired of dealing with monkeys in secondary examination at the airport, higher salaries than the United States in the United States in other parts of the world.” The author shared that their backup plan belongs to Argentina.

Echo their point of view with some and the curiosity of others. On the topic of the discussion, another user replied, “My wife and I are thinking about it. I am an American (I was born here), and she is from another country and has a green card. We plan to return to her homeland next fall.”

The abandonment of American permanent residence, although its daily absence, is not completely uncommon. Many green cards are abandoned by their situation due to the tax burdens associated with the global tax system of the United States, long and complex immigration operations, and better professional prospects in other countries.

However, while there is a great concern among green card holders about their situation in the campaign of President Donald Trump’s campaign against immigrants, there are no concrete personalities available in terms of giving up the green card.

Under American law, green card holders who want to give up their status must submit an I-407 model, and a record of abandoning permanent legal residence. Once they are treated, they lose their official resident status, but they can still visit the United States with a visa or under the visa waiver program, depending on their nationality.

The Reddit Post highlights the changing views of American immigration, as some individuals no longer see that America is the final destination for economic success and stability. With the increase in global opportunities, high salaries abroad, and bureaucratic obstacles in the United States, some green card holders restore whether the benefits exceed the challenges.
