according to USA TodayThe incident occurred at Mina’s apartment at around 5:30pm on Friday, December 6. Authorities reportedly believe her 2-year-old son found an unsecured gun in her bedroom and pulled the trigger. Ultimately, Mina sustained “a single gunshot wound to the upper part of her body.”

According to the outlet, police then arrested Mena’s boyfriend, 18-year-old Andrew Sanchez. USA Today Reports indicate that Sanchez was booked into the Fresno County Jail. Additionally, he was reportedly charged with felony negligent storage of a firearm and felony child endangerment.

“Investigators learned that Sanchez had negligently left his loaded 9mm handgun in a location inside their bedroom, where the children had access to it.” A press release confirms each outlet. “While carrying the firearm, the child pulled the trigger and struck his mother with a single bullet, killing her.”

According to the outlet, as of Wednesday, December 11, Sanchez appears to no longer be listed as an inmate. However, it remains unclear whether he has appointed a lawyer.
