A mass shooting in Towson, Maryland, killing one person and wounding 9 others

Mass shooting near a funeral home in Baltimore County, MarylandOne person was killed and nine others were injured Tuesday evening, county officials said.

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said officers responded to reports of a shooting on Loch Raven Street around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. The scene was near Johnson Funeral Home in the Towson community, according to Baltimore County Fire Chief Joe Dixon.

At the scene, an officer found a car lying on its side and engulfed in flames. McCullough said it appears the vehicle was involved in an accident that caused it to crash and catch fire, but no further details were available.

The county fire department was contacted and 10 victims were found in the area – one died of his injuries and nine were injured. The police chief said that the majority of the victims suffered gunshot wounds.

The nine surviving victims were transported to area trauma centers under unknown circumstances. Details about the victims and their injuries were not immediately available.

“The individuals in this case appear to know each other in some way or another,” McCullough said. “This incident was deliberate and targeted.”

No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday evening.

“We will not leave any stone unturned and will devote all resources to this,” the President promised. “We don’t generally see this type of thing in our communities in Baltimore County. This is an isolated incident.”

Responding Baltimore County firefighters were able to extinguish the vehicle fire and provide aid to the victims at the scene before transporting them, Dixon said.

The fire chief said he was “proud of our responders,” and highlighted the partnership between… Police and fire departments.

County Executive Johnny Olszewski, who is the elected representative of Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, also attended the news conference and said he was shocked by the deadly shooting.

“This is a shocking incident, especially for us in Baltimore County. This type of incident is unheard of here, so it really shocks the consciousness,” he said.

He added that the county is “fully committed” to ensuring both police and fire departments have full support and resources During an active investigation.
