your Fantasy Premier League Coach, you have a lot to think about, from planning your team in pre-season to choosing your starting XI, choosing your captain and making transfers each week.
However, there are also a number of chips that can be used throughout the FPL campaign that can earn you more points or transform your team, and a brand new Assistant Manager chip for 2025 was recently revealed.
But how and when can you use the new chip and all that is available? Football FanCast takes a look at all the FPL segments and what they mean.

Bench reinforcement
There’s nothing worse than leaving a lot of points on the bench while your starting team fails to perform. However, the Bench Boost bracket allows you to earn those points at one point during the season.
If you activate it before Gameweek, points scored by players on the bench will be included in your points total, with many FPL leaders waiting until later in the season for a double Gameweek to activate the chip.

Free hit
Have you had enough of your team and want to completely change it for just one week? Then the “Free Hit” segment is what you are looking for.
If you have a number of injuries, suspensions or difficult matches in your team, you can make unlimited transfers without losing points for one game week.
Once again, Double Play Weeks are a good time to post your Free Hit bracket. Alternatively, some weeks see a small number of teams involved, usually when cup commitments conflict with Premier League weekends. Free Strike may come to your rescue if most of your team members become unavailable.
Captain trio
As you would expect, the “Triple Captain” bracket results in the Captain scoring three points for just one gameweek.
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has been FPL Chiefs’ favorite captain so far in 2024/25, scoring a number of hat-tricks early in the season.
However, saving your Triple Captain chip for the final stages of the campaign can also pay off, especially if there’s an eye-catching double playweek for your star.

Wildcard
The ‘Wildcard’ chip is arguably one of the most important in the FPL, with managers getting two to use during the season.
If you have enough of your current team, using a Wildcard allows you to make unlimited permanent transfers without suffering any points deduction.
Previously, managers only got one Wildcard and one slot during January. This year, you can now use one before Christmas and one after December 29th.
Assistant manager
The new Assistant Manager Chip – previously known as the Mystery Chip – now allows FPL bosses to use actual Premier League managers to get more points.
The sim can be activated once starting in January and your chosen assistant will add to your score for three consecutive in-game weeks after it goes live.
However, it will come at a cost and is set to range between £0.5m and £1.5m. Assistant managers will receive points for wins, draws, clean sheets and goals scored, while bonus points are offered if they defeat a team ranked five places higher in the Premier League table.
