“When readers discovered the truth about how to create the book, many were injured. I was very regretted, but that was necessary,” he says.
I met Wired Colamedici in a conversation exploring the nuances of his project.
This interview was released for length and clarity.
Wire: What is the source of inspiration for the philosophical experience?
Andrea Coldisi: First of all, I study rapid thinking at the European Design Institute and fuel a research project on artificial intelligence and thought systems at the University of Fujia. By working with my students, I realized that they were using Chatgpt in the worst possible way: to copy it. I noticed that they were losing the understanding of life by relying on artificial intelligence, which is concerned, because we live in an era in which we can reach the perimeter of knowledge, but we do not know what to do with it. I often warned them: “You can get good degrees, even build a great profession using Chatgpt for cheating, but you will become empty.” I have trained professors from many Italian universities and many ask me: “When can I stop learning how to use Chatgpt?” The answer is never. It is not a matter of completing education in artificial intelligence, but about how Learn when using it. “
We must keep our curiosity alive while using this tool properly and teaching it to work how we want it. Everything starts from a decisive discrimination: there is information that makes you negative, eroding your ability to think over time, and there is information that challenges you, which makes you smarter by pushing you beyond your borders. This is how we should use artificial intelligence: as a interviewer that helps us think differently. Otherwise, we will not understand that these tools are designed by large technology companies that impose a specific ideology. They choose data, communications between them, and above all, they treat us as satisfaction agents. If we use artificial intelligence in this way, this will only confirm our prejudices. We will think we are right, but in reality we will not think; We will embrace digitally. We cannot bear this numbness. This was the starting point of the book. The second challenge was how to describe what is happening now. For Gilles Deleuze, philosophy is the ability to create concepts, and today we need new concepts to understand our reality. Without them, we lost. Look just to the Gaza Trump video – which was created by artificial intelligence – or provocation of characters such as musk. Without solid conceptual tools, we drown the ship. A good philosopher creates concepts such as keys that allow us to understand the world.
What is your goal with the new book?
The book seeks to do three things: to help readers to know reading and writing, and inventing a new concept of this era, and to be theoretical and practical at the same time. When readers discovered the truth on how to create the book, many were injured. I am very regretted, but it was necessary. Some people said, “I hope this author is present.” Well, it’s no. We must understand that we are building our own novels. If we do not, the extreme right will monopolize accounts, create myths, and we will spend our lives examining the facts while writing history. We cannot allow this to happen.
How did you use artificial intelligence to help you write this philosophical article?
I want to make it clear that artificial intelligence did not write the article. Yes, I used artificial intelligence, but not in a traditional way. It has developed a way to study it at the European Institute of Design, based on the creation of the opposition. It is a way to think and use automatic learning in a hostile way. I did not ask the device to write to me, but instead, I created ideas and then used GPT and Claude to criticize them, to give me views about what I wrote. Everything is written in the book is mine. Artificial intelligence is a tool that we must learn to use, because if we are offended – and “misuse” that includes treating it as a kind of Oracle, and requesting it “tell me the answer to the world’s questions; explain to me why existence” – then we lose our ability to think. We became stupid. “I am using technology for properly hate it,” said June Pike, a great artist in the 1990s. This is what we should do: understand it, because if we do not do that, it will use us. Artificial intelligence will become the tool that large technology uses to control us and manipulate us. We must learn to use these tools properly; Otherwise, we will face a serious problem.
